Nikhil Dhaka, Vice President, Primus Partners, shares his view on the significance of the PM E-Drive scheme for electric trucks.He highlights that the scheme plays a critical role in addressing the steep upfront cost barrier, particularly for commercial vehicles in the N2 and N3 categories. These trucks require large battery packs (250–400 kWh), which significantly increases their price compared to diesel variants. For instance, while a conventional diesel N2 truck costs around ₹17–18 lakh, its electric counterpart is priced at ₹60–64 lakh. Similarly, an electric N3 truck can cost up to ₹78 lakh—more than three times the cost of a diesel model.
